When Superdrug set its sights on a flagship store in the newly developed Edinburgh St James Centre, the brand required a trusted partner capable of delivering excellence on time, even under the unprecedented challenges of a global pandemic.
Having collaborated with AGM Group across multiple UK locations for over a decade, Superdrug once again entrusted our experienced team to bring their vision to life.
The Challenge
Retail fit-outs are inherently complex and time-sensitive, and this flagship location was no exception. Positioned at a prime entrance within the shopping centre, the unit was handed over as a bare shell. AGM Group needed to transform the space from the ground up, ensuring it met Superdrug’s high standards and aligned with the centre’s opening schedule—all amid the uncertainty of Covid-19.
For Superdrug’s flagship location at Edinburgh St James Centre, AGM Group was tasked with delivering a large-format store designed to accommodate high customer volumes. The extensive floor area required full screeding and build-up works to ensure a perfectly level base, ready for the premium floor finishes specified by the client.
At the entrance, significant structural engineering was undertaken. Our team installed new steelwork to support a bespoke frameless glass shopfront system, complete with two sets of automatic double sliding doors — creating a striking, modern frontage that reflects Superdrug’s brand identity while meeting the highest standards of safety and performance.
Key project requirements included:

- Fire-rated partitions and doors

- Frameless glass shopfront with sliding entrance doors

Even the most carefully planned projects can face last-minute setbacks — and this flagship Superdrug store was no exception. Just 14 hours before the official launch, one of the sliding glass doors was accidentally shattered during final cleaning. With the store due to open the next morning, there was no room for delay.
AGM Group immediately stepped in to coordinate an emergency solution. Working closely with our specialist glazing partner, we arranged for a replacement glass door — complete with suspension rails to fit the automatic mechanism — to be manufactured overnight. Thanks to our strong supplier relationships, the factory team opened on night shift to produce the door, while our site team prepared for immediate installation.
Within just 12 hours, the damaged door was removed, the new one installed, and the store was ready to welcome customers on time.
